Banana Bread Brownies

Rich and moist banana bread brownies topped with brown butter frosting - a perfect blend of two classic desserts in one irresistible treat.

  • Total Time: 25 minute
  • Yield: 24 brownies 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Banana Bread Brownies:

  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 eggs, at room temperature
  • 3 bananas, mashed
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup walnuts, chopped

For the Brown Butter Frosting:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  • Prepare Your Workspace: Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Create the Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, sour cream, softened butter, and eggs. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth and well incorporated.
  • Add Banana Mixture: Fold in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour, baking soda, and salt to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Gently fold in the chopped walnuts.
  • Bake to Perfection: Pour the batter into your prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Prepare the Frosting: While the brownies cool, brown the butter in a saucepan until it reaches a medium amber color. Remove from heat and gradually stir in the powdered sugar, followed by milk and vanilla extract.
  • Finish and Serve: Once the brownies have cooled slightly, spread the warm frosting evenly over the top. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
