- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (1 stick) cold butter
- 1 cup whole milk, chilled
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- ¼ teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
- Additional melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- Prepare Your Oven: Preheat to 450°F (230°C) and position the rack in the center.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and if using, garlic powder and oregano.
- Cut in the Butter: Using a pastry blender or fork, work the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the Milk: Gradually pour in the cold milk, gently stirring after each addition until just combined. The dough will be slightly sticky.
- Form the Biscuits: Using an ice cream scoop, drop portions of dough onto a buttered cast-iron skillet or parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake to Perfection: Place in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and crispy.
