Grandma’s Ground Beef Casserole

This dish transforms everyday ingredients into a memorable family meal. Just like a warm loaf of Easy Dutch Oven No-Knead Bread, it’s simple yet so rewarding.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 6–8 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef

  • 29 ounces tomato sauce

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 12 ounces egg noodles

  • ½ cup sour cream

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, cubed small

  • 1 small onion, diced fine

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Heat the oven to 375°F. Spray a 9×13 pan with nonstick spray.

  2. Brown the Beef: In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain fat if needed.

  3. Simmer the Sauce: Return beef to the stove. Add tomato sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir and simmer on low for 20 minutes. Remove from heat.

  4. Cook the Pasta: While the beef simmers, boil egg noodles until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  5. Make Creamy Layer: In a small bowl, mix sour cream, cream cheese, and onion until combined.

  6. Assemble Layers: Spread half of the noodles into the casserole dish. Top with half the beef mixture. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese blend. Repeat with remaining noodles, beef, and cream mixture.

  7. Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded cheddar evenly over the top.

  8. Bake to Perfection: Bake uncovered for 20 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top.

  9. Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven, let it sit for a minute or two, then garnish with fresh parsley.
