Ingredients
-
2 lb ground chuck beef (80/20)
-
Fine sea salt, to taste
-
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Classic Cheeseburger Toppings:
-
6 burger buns
-
6 slices medium cheddar cheese (thick sliced)
-
1 large tomato, sliced into 8 rings
-
12 leaves green leaf lettuce
-
½ medium red onion, thinly sliced into rings
-
½ cup dill pickle slices
Instructions
-
Prepare the Toppings: Slice the tomato, onion, and pickles. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves so they’re crisp.
-
Toast the Buns: Spread the cut side of each bun with softened butter. Toast them face-down on a skillet or grill until golden brown. This step enhances the flavor and keeps the buns firm, just like the way you’d prepare bread for a breakfast bundt cake.
-
Shape the Patties: Divide the beef into six equal portions, about ⅓ lb each. Shape patties about ½-inch thick and slightly larger than the buns. Press a small indent in the center of each patty.
-
Season Generously: Sprinkle both sides with sea salt and freshly ground pepper. The seasoning highlights the natural richness of the beef.
-
Grill the Burgers: Preheat the grill to medium heat. Place patties indent-side up and cook covered for 3–5 minutes per side. Flip when juices rise to the surface.
-
Melt the Cheese: In the final 1–2 minutes, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cover the grill until melted.
-
Rest and Assemble: Remove the burgers and let them rest for 5 minutes. Place patties on toasted buns, then add lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. Complete the burger with your favorite sauces.
